Setting your hourly rate
YumKiosk bills owners on a per agent-hour basis on top of the monthly plan fee. An agent-hour is any hour where an agent is marked "available" or actively in a session, attributed to your business. The hourly rate is something you set per agent — YumKiosk doesn't mandate a number, but the rate directly controls how much the agent earns and how much you pay.
How the math works
When an agent is clocked in on your kiosks, the platform records their shift in 1-minute increments. At the end of each billing cycle:
- Total clocked minutes are rolled up per agent.
- Per-agent subtotal =
(minutes ÷ 60) × hourly_rate. - Business subtotal = sum of all agent subtotals.
- Platform fee = business subtotal × 15% (your cut to YumKiosk, covering infrastructure, support, and payment processing).
- Total owner charge = business subtotal + platform fee + plan fee.
The 15% platform cut applies only to agent hours — it does not apply to your plan fee.
Setting a rate
When you invite an agent, the hourly rate field is required. For existing agents, you can update it anytime from Team → Agents → Edit → Hourly rate. The change takes effect on the next shift — in-progress shifts continue at the old rate to avoid mid-shift surprises.
Rates are per agent, not per role, so you can have a $20/hr lead and a $14/hr junior on the same team.
Typical ranges
There's no enforced floor or ceiling, but based on platform averages:
- US contractors: $14–$22/hour
- Tier-2 markets: $8–$14/hour
- Shared pool (YumKiosk-managed): flat $16/hour, no setting required
You are responsible for making sure the rate you set complies with your local minimum wage and contractor laws. YumKiosk provides the tooling — not legal advice.
Tipping
Customers can optionally tip at checkout. Tips flow through the kiosk's Stripe Connect account and are attributed 100% to the agent who built the order — YumKiosk does not take a cut of tips, and they don't count toward platform fees. Tips appear in the agent's earnings dashboard on the same day they're collected.
Previewing your bill
At any time, you can go to Billing → Current cycle to see a live preview of:
- Clocked minutes per agent
- Rate applied
- Running subtotal
- Projected end-of-month invoice
This lets you catch billing anomalies early (e.g., an agent left "available" overnight by accident) and adjust mid-cycle.
